Novice

Prepared recitation

Teachers will have the opportunity to choose the readings for their students. Each reading, be it prose or poetry, must be between 15 and 20 lines. It also must be memorized and recited with feeling and emotion not just read by rote. Please provide a copy of the poem to the judges upon entering the competition room. Please write the name of the student and the school name on top of the copy of the poem. Each recitation should be no longer than 2 minutes. Recitations will be evaluated on language assuredness/fluency, pronunciation, feeling and memorization.

When registering your students, please note that there are two different rooms for the novice prepared recitation. Make sure that your students are in the correct room.
